The Anchor OSA is a fabulous concept with the use of a different tree(somehow) used in the brewing process every year. This 2001 has the addition of a California Washingtonia Fan-leaved Palm or as noted on the bottle(Washingtonia Filifera) which is a tall palm that grows to about 50ft, the fan-leaves 3-6 ft in diameter, often with deeply torn and edged spiny-toothed leafstalks. The trunks may be covered by hanging dead fronds making it look like a gaint dead pineapple, but in landscaping and areas populated with humans they are trimmed to keep both rodent infestation and fire danger to a minimum. Now to the beer...

Color is a clouded mahagony ruby color, dark but glowing, thin tannish fluffed head appears and fades a bit fast to a puffy collar and minimal spotty lace.

Oooohh, but the smell...ooohh the smell! Absolutely wonderful and exotic, the best nose on a beer ever! If I could give it a 6 it would get a 6! All sorts of great spices with a cookie sweetness, super strong and pungent, wow! Ginger, allspice, orange zest, cinnamon, white pepper, with pleasing notes of sugary cake frosting and cookie sweetner with vanilla and molasses. F*cking great holiday-refic bakery fresh nose!

Taste is a milder version of the smell but not by much, definately has all the same things in there with a great spicy kick of ginger, some cinnamon, allspice, orange dullness or passion/tropical fruityness lingers in and out of the mix and an overall light sweetness of cookie dough, vanilla, and some deep earthy tones adding a charred smokey grass as well. Packed full of flavor that never ends and lingers with the spices on the back of the palate of which seemed like an eternity. Holy nice Yum! Very spicy, perfectly mild with a certain tone of strength with nice little sweetning and comes across quite exotic.

Feel is smooth and easy, thinnish start but overall very close to full and an overall fluffy/velvety mild texture with a great spice kick and very light dryness in the finish. Just floats off the palate and demands another sip; quick, quick, before its gone...ahhh, now it is. Fantastic!
