Got this beer from someone at DLD 2008. Served up at 53º. Bottle says you can age it 6 to 24 months or longer. Guess this one has been longer.

Pours a deep mahogany and allows just a bit of light to penetrate the brew. Small head of tiny bubble of foam sits atop the beer. The head settles to just a small ring around the edge of the glass and a bit floating on it's own little island in the middle of the brew. Nice bit of lacing up the walls of the glass.

Smooth carmel malt up front with a nice bit of light toffee. Bit of smokiness and a touch of roasted malt. Just a hint very light cocoa and a touch of coffee.

Super smooth and silky big malt body. Plenty of caramel and roast. Light bit of smokiness. Low smooth carbonation is very nice in this style of beer. Just a touch of cocoa and a bit of peat. The smokiness becomes more apparent in the aftertaste as it sits on the tongue for a bit after each sip. Roastiness does the same.

Not a sign of the 10% ABV in the aroma or flavor. Age did nice things here although I think a year less would have been perfect. Very nice wee heavy. Great style and great example.

This is actually a year old vintage. Pours a mostly clear dark brown color with a definite red hue. Some sediment in the bottle made it to the party but mostly kept in the bottle. A very thick, fluffy head with some good staying power and lacing through the entire tasting.

The nose is rich in malt and complexity. Big kettle caramel notes with a hint of roast. A light meaty aroma as well. There is a very clean yeast aroma with some lighter plums and fig notes. Very clean with great legs and appeal.

The taste is similar. To start there is a great malt presence that lingers through the whole taste. The kettle caramel is there but just a tad lighter than the nose indicated. Some more sugary notes with a light honey and molasses thing on the backend. A nice creamy taste and very clean malt taste but a hint of a chalkiness on the backend. The yeast is noticeable but very clean. Some alcohol but blends very nicely with that malt for a great finish.

The body is closer to moderate than full. Some residuals really leave this boarder line though. Carbonation is light but leaves a creamy feel. Overall a fantastic beer. Some minor off notes but one of the best Wee Heavy's I have ever had.

750 from footbalm. Dark brown with a short lived head.. Aroma is just loads of caramel. Some slightly roasted and smoke character. A ton of chocolate and caramel flavor. Smokey bitter finish. Palate is big and chewy. What a terrific beer.

Westsidethreat beer week continues...

A - Aggressive pour produces a small buttery colored head. Head is fizzy and reduces to some whisps and a ring around the glass quickly. Body is a slightly murky brown with a reddish tint to it.

S - Loads of robust sweet malt here. Toffee and caramel in abundance. Boozy odors, with some whiskey soaked dark fruits, including raisins and dates. Lightly smoked peat malt.

T - Starts off and goes in much the same order as I detected in the smell. That might be a first. Sweet malts up front with tons of toffee and caramel flavors intermingling. Boozy fruits come in with raisins, figs, and a touch of anise. Some bitterness makes an appearance, with a slight coffee like taste and feel to it. More sweetness afterward with some dark fruit combined with brown sugar and molasses. Slightly boozy finish and lingering aftertaste.

M - Full and rich mouthfeel that gets better as it warms. Very smooth.

D - I don't think this one needed even the slightest chill on it. Would've done best straight from the cellar. Gets better and better as it warms, both in flavor and in mouthfeel. Great beer.

VVoVV, nose meet Wee Heavy> Awesome brew. Pours a murky dark amber. Great smell to it, a little smoky? with some malt. Taste is much of the same, with some caramel. Very good brew. :moneyL
