Old Chub pours garnet with glowing mahogany highlights throughout when held to the light. A 2 finger tan head formed on the pour that eventually fell to a thick cap. Leaves drink lacing after each sip that slowly slides back into the body.

Dark aromas come from everywhere with this beer. Brown sugar, molasses, and sweetly roasted malts. Maybe even figs. Every now and then I catch a hint of smokiness. Chocolate abounds. As this beer warms the smokiness becomes more pronounced. Alcohol fumes rise on the finish. Very nice.

Flavor starts off with roasted maltiness and is quickly followed by unsweetened chocolate. A nice smokiness comes around mid palate and lasts through the finish. The smokiness is there but allows the other flavors room to work. Sweet creaminess on the finish. Very nice.

Medium bodied but as creamy as you could hope for. Mild carbonation with faint alcohol on the finish.

I'm usually not a huge Scotch ale kind of guy but I could easily tilt a few of these back in a sitting.

Old Chub is a high, high quality Scottish ale. Very enjoyable and easy drinking. Big flavors but in no way overwhelming. Excellent.

Clearish deep and dark cherrywood red with a small dense capping of yellowish foam that slides away quickly to leave a whole bunch of collared bubbles and some stretched out thick strings of lace.

Aroma is kind of dark and fudgy with some touches to dark cherry, dark rum, cooked brown sugar, and chocolate chip cookie dough. Faint peat appears in bigger wiffs.

Taste is exceelently nice and more of the same from that aroma but in flavored form. Clean body and taste of chocolate chip cookie dough laced with some extra vanilla, bits of cherry, subsided caramel and molasses tang up some portions of its maltier side, which is easy to distinguish upon its crafty soft and smooth chewy finish. Take the flour out of the cookie recipe and lessen the sugar and this might be what ya get when making chocolate chip cookies. Tum!

Feel is quite solid and approaching fullness as its flavor fills in quickly and leaves a great finish and want for more. The malty tang is subtle and super rounded into a dark chocolate and caramel goo with a enticingly rich and smooth taste and overall body.

Wow, one solid Scotch ale brew from a can. A few of these can be put back with ease me thinks. Good stuff.

Old Chub pours a dark amber color, with shades of brown, and sherry. Over an inch of foam quickly rises and almost as quickly settles to a nice thin layer.

Huge notes of caramel and light chocolate on the nose. It’s a bit surprising at how rich and malty this beer smells, lots of caramel malts, toasted bread, brown sugar, a bit of sweet dates and raisins.

Tastes similar to the aroma but almost reversed. I get some toasted malts first, followed by dark fruits, raisins, caramel and a milk chocolate finish. There’s also a slight alcohol taste and warmth in the finish, just a tad rough. Some smoky flavor comes through in the finish just right after the chocolate.

Good beer but it would be hard to session this one, filling and 8% alc. not sure if I could drink more than a pint of this since it can also get very sweet.

Nice dark, thick pour leaves about a 1/4 white head.

Smell is good, sweet and malty.

I have to echo TT on this one, this does start as a creamy lite milk chocolate taste that blends into a roasted malt taste followed by a little bitter bite, ending with a bittersweet chocolate taste.

Carbonation was very nice on this can and the beer overall was a nice, smooth drinking beer.

Overall, I liked this beer, will look to try more of the Oskar Blues beers.

A - Cola color body, dark brown when held to light. Big, fluffy coffee like head.

S - Dark roasted malts. Toffee and some chocolate.

T - Starts off with light milk chocolate notes. Slight coffee and roasted dark malt then takes over. Finishes with a slight bitter bite and the taste of bittersweet baker's chocolate.

M - Medium bodied. Maybe slightly overcarbonated.

D - Nice beer, as are all that I have had from Oscar Blues.

Thats to beagle for giving me a chance to review this brew. Great pour, very dark brew with a nice tan head that hangs around. Good lacing. Smell is really good. Malty, and sweet. A little alcohol. Taste is great, full flavored brew. Malts, dark fruits, and nice clean finish. Great brew.
